When we browse the Internet, we must now accept systematically when opening a site how our data stored in the well-known cookies will be used. Since the new regulation of the NISLC, these cookies represent an important stake for the marketing department.
3 questions to Julien Desreumaux, marketing digital manager :
For which reasons is the update of the cookie management on Parachut.com necessary ?
The regulation concerning the GDRP (General Data Protection Regulation) is continuously evolving. In this context, our responsibility as a website owner is to be in conformity with the regulations in place. In order to be updated with the latest legislation, it is necessary for us to update the consent management platform which rules have evolved. This platform is the tool that allows us to collect and manage the consent of the users of a site concerning cookies.
What changes are imposed by this new regulation ?
Today, the user must have the choice on the use and setting of these cookies. As a result, the new regulation in place prohibits the activation of cookies for a user who ignores the warning window. From now on, refusing a cookie must be as simple as accepting it. This requires more transparency and this includes the design of the warning window.
What is at stake with this update from a legal and marketing point of view ?
In case of non-compliance with this regulation, we risk a fine from the NISLC*. Following this new regulation which came into effect on 1st April 2021, it’s now more complicated to collect user’s data and therefore to analyze their browsing behavior. Without these datas, it is difficult to create marketing campaigns that are pertinent to the target audience. The stake for us is to continue to collect a maximum of user data. This includes the design of the warning window and its content, which must positively encourage the user to accept cookies.
*The NISLC refers to national information science and liberties commission. Its role is to protect the personal computer data of consumers.
